Code Holders are a mysterious collection of reality bending individuals that were originally meant to debut in the cancelled fighting game Capcom Fighting All-Stars: Code Holder. The Code Holder concept would however linger with the game's protagonist, Ingrid, throughout her various crossover appearances before finally being heavily expanded upon within Street Fighter 6.

Concept

A Code Holder is a title granted to a select few individuals that holds the power to rewrite the "Code" that makes up all realities, a concept known as the multiverse. Additional unique abilities are also given that separate each of the Code Holders with a motif such as the sun for Ingrid, darkness for Avel, thunder for D.D., and heaven for Rook.

History

In Street Fighter 6, Ingrid reveals that as a "Code Holder", it is her duty to constantly alter the "Code" that makes up the multiverse in order to maintain balance and peace. This includes erasing rogue timelines from existence and closely monitoring reality-level threats such as M. Bison and Pyron. However, not all Code Holders use their power for good, as Avel and Dark Ingrid use their gifts to bring about chaos and destruction.

While Ingrid and Avel were born with these powers, D.D. and Rook instead had their powers genetically imbued upon them by a mysterious organization.[1][2]
